Who Would Want To Work On A Beach?

Think about it…

You’ve pocketed enough extra income to afford a nice holiday abroad.

You pack yourself up, you jump on the plane.

Let’s say you’re going to Miami. You’ve got a room in a hotel on Ocean Drive and the beach is just across the road.

You dump your bags, throw on your slightly embarrassing Bermuda shorts and get set for some sun.

Thing is, the way you make your money means you do need to check a few things online before you can relax…

Maybe it’s placing a quick trade or two, maybe it’s dealing with a few orders for the information product you’re selling, or maybe it’s placing a few bets that your sports tipping has thrown up.

Whatever it is, it needs to be done – it’s just a necessary part of your extra income generation.

But why, why, why would you take your laptop on the beach or by the pool to do it?

You’ve read about these people, right?

The ‘laptop on the beach’ gang.

I guess they’d be easy to spot on holiday – they’re the ones sweating profusely because not only is the sun shining down on them, but their computers are heating up their laps as well.

Seriously. Why would you want to have your laptop on the beach or by the poolside?

Wouldn’t it be much better to sort your business out inside your hotel room so that when you get to the beach – you can truly relax?

The last thing you want to do when you’re relaxing

At the end of last year, my work took me to Miami. And the set up was much as I’ve just described.

The nature of my job meant I needed to do a few bits and bobs before I could relax. That’s fine. I love my work.

But did I ever dream of taking my laptop on the beach – did I hell!

Instead, I worked in my room and then having finished I was able to turn ‘work mode’ off and truly relax… read my book, enjoy a cold beer and get a little sun.

Where extra income opportunities are concerned, it’s an old cliché. But it really frustrates me…

Don’t get me wrong, I know people who do actually do this but I can’t think of anything worse.

Behind this though, there is a small but significant difference in philosophy that I think it’s important to highlight.

Why it’s important not to cloud your motivating ideal

For me, this whole suggestion of being able to work on the beach or by the pool doesn’t make any sense.

Even if it is genuine – and I do personally know a few members of the ‘laptop on the beach’ gang who really do work by the pool – I think the message it promotes is wrong.

You see, I believe that the whole point of striving towards generating your own extra income stream is to afford you real freedom – not to be tied to a laptop on the beach.

It’s so important in life to have a goal, to be able to picture what you want your life to become…

And part of that picture might well be relaxing on a beach or having a cold beer by the side of the pool.

But whatever the picture you imagine is, it should be your ‘ideal’ situation, it should be perfect…

Because that picture is what will motivate you to achieve success.

Putting your laptop in the picture? That doesn’t motivate.

That reminds you of work.

And no matter how much you love your work, if you let it pollute your ideal motivating image you will eventually grow to resent it.

The very situation you aspire to could in fact become a destructive force that stops you from achieving it.

So, when it comes to picturing your ideal lifestyle… the life you want to lead… the reason you strive to generate an extra income…

Make sure you don’t cloud it with any associations of your work. And be sure to leave your laptop in the hotel room.
