Something I’ll Never Forget

[ 0 ] January 30, 2010 | Glenn Fisher

I’ve just been searching my shelves for a book to take to the coffee shop this morning…

I settled on a book by an American author Don DeLillo, The Body Artist.

Anytime I pick up a DeLillo book though, I’m always reminded of when I read his most famous work…

A big old book called Underworld.

It’s a real mammoth and I don’t mind admitting it took me an age to finish it.

In fact, I can clearly remember finishing it and thinking, thank God that’s done with.

Rather than being able to enjoy reflecting on what I’d read I was more relieved at having finally navigated my way through the 1,000+ pages.

It wasn’t until a few weeks later I realised how much I’d actually enjoyed the book.

It had really stuck with me.

It’s a book I’ll never forget.

Sure, it seemed a slog at the time, but by persevering with it, it had really ingrained itself in my conscious.

If I’d given up on it 300 or so pages in, I would have never been able to appreciate it in full.

I read a lot of books, but I realise so many of them I forget about so easily.

Sticking at a big book like DeLillo’s Underworld might seem like hard work but it’s that much more rewarding.

Starting your own business, creating a second income, developing a blog… it’s all the same.

Sticking at it might sometimes seem like hard work but the reward will be worth it.

Take a look at this email I got recently from Shortcut reader Steve…

“…been using your services for a while now, I get the Shortcut publication and have tried selling books on Amazon. It has been fairly slow but we are beginning to see profits.”

Bingo.

I’m a big fan of selling second-hand books online as a second or third income generator and advise everyone to give it a go.

When I first started doing it, I had my first few orders coming in within a day or so and started profiting pretty quickly.

But it’s not always the case, sometimes it can take a little longer to get into the flow.

But as Steve’s email demonstrates…

If you stick with it, even though it might start off slow, eventually you’ll start to see the profits… just as Steve is doing now.

Seems obvious, to advise you to ‘stick with it’.

Obvious it may be, but believe me it’s so true.

Just like if I’d given up on DeLillo’s book, I would never have been able to properly appreciate it…

If you give up on developing your own income streams, you’ll never be able to enjoy real profits.

It’s something to consider and I hope you take that thought away with you today.

Right, I’ve got my book and it’s time I made my way out.

Coffee first and then I’m off shopping for one of these little Netbook things.

Have a great weekend and I’ll speak to you again soon.
